Metrology is the basis for everything we measure

Measurements are made all over the world, in all sectors. Usually we measure in order to make decisions or to control something. It can be to decide on certain actions, but it can also be automated decisions in industry control- or regulation systems. Millions of automated decisions are made every second. But what happens if the measurements are not correct? Different contexts call for different degrees of measurement uncertainty. For example, if a pharmaceutical pill weights 10 gram and the active substance weights a 100 milligram, it takes good measurement uncertainty to ensure the right patient dose.

RISE are experts in measurements and assists both industry and society. We can provide services such as calibration, research and development of new measurement techniques, measurement references or specialised measurement instruments. RISE is Sweden's NMI (National Metrology Institute), responsible for the central measurement quantities.
